Aquarian ageThe New Moon this January 2023 arrives with the Sun and Moon kissing in Aquarius. I am sitting here with two well illustrated art books on my bed, the kind that you can leave out because they are so pretty. One book title says “Astrology” and the other says “Tarot.” That is so apropos for this New Moon. Can you imagine being a double Aquarius open to all woo-woo things?

Their favorite things are: to buy books, to collect notebooks for (online) classes, to gather all the New Age objects that your grandmother would never have recognized: crystals, sound bowls, divination cards, toning sounds from the high range of binaural beats (you may have to Google that), not to mention incense, candles and endless bottles of remedies and mixtures.

They call this the Aquarian age, which provides an entirely new lingo. Some of us are now card holding participants in the ‘New Age’ — even though this is the part of us that hates joining groups and never fits in. Most of you reading an Astrology newsletter would be considered a member of the New Age and all things woo-woo but then again, maybe not — says the Aquarian contrarian.

This is the part of us that stands apart from the group, yet also wants to belong. It’s a conundrum. This energy comes with a lingo all its own. Words our grandmothers would have never uttered; for they describe the 21st century, like: Google, iPhone, social media, Metaverse, black holes, climate change, chatGPT (you may have to Google that last one)…just to mention a few.

I remember when my good, old Aquarian friend, Kenny, who I highlighted in my book The Missing Element, was freed from San Quentin prison back in 2008, after being away for 27 years. When he re-entered our world he couldn’t believe there were newfangled toilets that flush by themselves. That there’s a plastic strip that could slide into a bank slot (ATM cards) immediately recognizing your bank account. He was amazed that flights didn’t require tickets, that there were no more accordion stacks of paper at the desks of the airport.

I saw our future through his eyes. He had been gone 27 years and carried so much amazement. In honor of this New Moon let’s see through the eyes of awe. Imagine that an alien arrived on our planet and looked around. What would he see and read about in our news? There is a word called war (surprising that that word hasn’t been ditched yet). They would read about all the storms and strange weather we are faced with daily, the constant bombardment of fear and anxiety that humans now deal with. Sexual confusion, gender fluid, gender neutral. A world of change.

The news is filled with articles about refugees on our planet, carrying the right to be here, yet they have no home and cannot find their place in countries. It’s a wild time on Earth for so many.

A double Aquarian sky like this begs the question: what will our next future hold? Where are we headed? When I get too deep into the fear of what’s to come, I return to what has remained, even for my grandmother.

Astrology – this has passed the test of time. Tarot — this has passed the test of time. According to the book I’m reading that’s sitting on my bed, Tarot started in the 1500’s.

What is different now (thank Goddess) is that there is no longer fear of us talking about the stars or Tarot or crystals, for that matter. Witch is no longer a dangerous word.

Can we just have a round of applause for the evolution that has allowed the magical realm to *not* be shut down through the King’s call? Or through the irrational fear of the villagers, or fear of witchcraft and the patriarchy shutting down the magic?

This New Moon gives thanks for what has come. Look optimistically toward the future, as scary as it may seem. Magic will follow us around. There are some steady influences like Astrology and Tarot that will never go away.

What of the old do you still carry? I am old-fashioned as an Astrologer. I love parchment paper, old relics and incense that still carries memories of the sacred.

What else do you love that you hope never goes away? This New Moon is a chance to future-pace and to look backwards. Double Aquarius, they are the contrarian who goes fast/slow, future/past and are willing to say: l am always trusting what will come next.

Blessings,
Debra

    Beautifully written.
Where is God in all this?
I am God’s chosen one. It is God first everything falls into place. I believe energy changes ( weather people cannot predict where tornadoes strike. They can get close, not advance – energy in a system changes as it moves. Hurricanes ( they get most of it right), except energy changes.
I cannot believe in tarot except with planets moving into other planets for some time. Love Crystals, kike sea shells, energy.
So I believe in Astrology. Not tara. I believe in Angels of the light. I do not do witches of any kind.

Future paced Aquarius Rising next – Getting super charged with the Aquarian sky & Pluto exacting Sun. This is how you power up for a new year. Ready for your sequel, Elemental Indulgence. Nothing is missing, Deb! Perception required!

  • Thank you so much Debra for sharing your wisdom and the beauty of astrology. I have Chiron at 22′ Aquarius and I know you don’t discuss Chiron, so I”m unsure what that actually means for me. I am a double water Cancer/Scorpio and my “old-world” that I still carry is good old-fashioned integrity, ethics and respect for ALL beings. xx

Thank you for your teachings. I’m joyfully learning more and more from you as I’m one of Colette’s Oracle circle and found you through her. I’m growing and blooming on this life path 6 as a double Aquarius. :). This blog really spoke to me as I feel that this is my breakout year of true big manifestations that align with path 6 and can’t wait to reinforce my intentions at this double Aquarius new moon. It’s year 1 for me in my cycle. It’s my time! Thank you for your support and being such a bright light. I always intend to be that too. 🙂

My very catholic irish mother told me that I have had a maternal grandma “goldie” who read the cards(ordinary) playing cards when she was
a child ( my mom was born 1904) so history repeats itself , meant to be honored even at my age of 74 as i get back into astrology and metaphysics i left behind in my 30-40 50’s)
