Full Moon in Cancer, Sun in Capricorn

I love writing the newsletter for this Full Moon. This is the combo I studied thoroughly through one the best teachers in this life: my dad, Milt. He was, in fact, a Capricorn with a Full Moon in Cancer.

I am going to guess this is true for you – as the years go by, we miss the people close to us, who deeply touched our soul, for good or bad – and the memories of them contribute to a narrative you are living by. It’s true for me.

My dad insulted me by calling me “dumb.” He was a harsh man. He unintentionally forgot to hug me (until my late 20s), consistently acting out his personality: a severe workaholic (hello, Capricorn) who had no idea how to relax or just have fun, nor did he socialize or remember any of my friend’s names. He was socially awkward; he was disinterested in personality and stories.

Now, after all these years, I understand his character – for one good reason: I deeply studied his chart. Capricorn in the 12th House, plus Aquarius Rising with no other Air in his chart can present as a lack of social interests. Now, it makes sense.

This is the lesson of the Full Moon – Cancer specializes in compassion. He was a cold businessman with the secret tender heart of a Cancer. Cancer is the watery influence reminding us we are all human: that we all suffer, make mistakes and cause harm unintentionally. That’s just how it goes down here. Cancer Moons typically can cry easily. My dad did not.

After our childhood turns into dust, we carry fragments of memories that change colors.

If those memories are left unsupervised without healing, without examination, they carry a tender impact that lives under the system and can silently hurt us. I have done plenty of therapy for just this reason.

I realized the gifts of his funny, not-so-funny personality did hurt me. I have let go of the severe pain and absorbed the best parts of Capricorn. I learned from Milt his profound example of discipline, echoed by my own chart (I have a strong Saturn placement).

This explains how I have been doing Astrology for almost 5 decades. Writing these newsletters twice a month for almost 10 years. Why? Because I saw, by example, my dad getting up early, reading the Detroit news, smoking his cigarettes, jumping into his jalopy to consistently bring home the bacon (and the bagels). He provided for us alright, just not with emotional wisdom.

That Full Moon energy was blocked by circumstance and conditioning.

The zeitgeist of the time prevented him from having any expression of softness derived from his Cancer Moon and his Grand Trine in Water. He was strictly taught not to cry or feel. He was a man’s man.

Then a medical emergency arrived, he was afflicted with herpes on the brain. For two weeks, he lost control of his left brain. All he could do was cry. I sat with him in the hospital for days, watching him crumble, melting the barriers of his shields.

I saw his emotional body open as I held him, cried with him, and loved him. Eventually, his left brain came back on – funny enough, he had very little memory of what happened. But I saw it firsthand- that full Cancer Moon had a history of stashed pain that had never been released, and the floodgates opened.

During this Full Moon, ask yourself: Are there memories back there that need to be freed? Am I holding onto sadness that’s never been released? I keep paying attention to my body and its cues about what lives under the system. My gums have been a small issue for a long time, so I looked it up.

Bleeding gums: may represent unresolved anger and resentment over unjust treatment. No surprise. I knew way back in my childhood that I carried resentment for all I had to endure. Now, I continually address this – bringing my past forward for review. I value therapy and reflection. My gums are so much better!

During this Full Moon, look up your symptoms. You deserve to be healthy and thrive. Truth be told, if you have unprocessed issues, this is the time – at the beginning of year under the first Full Moon – to start addressing this.

In our school we get to help you heal the unfinished narrations that you are carrying about your past, your story, your pain. All storylines/trauma that were put in place by your soul, seen from the angle of the stars. I promise it is not random, nor are you a victim.

Do you believe me? Look what it took for my dad to open his emotional body. We are all seeking peace and healing. It’s why we are here. Studying Astrology is the shorthand to understand the lessons up close and personal.

Happy Full Moon. Happy Birthday, Milt. It’s amazing how much I have learned from the mistakes my father made. Wait: that sounds profound. Yes, I have learned from my father’s mistakes. How about you?

Debra

I will use the full moon energy wisely. I checked my nodes today. My north node is Virgo, south node is in Pisces. Not sure if this is good or not so good, so I am saying, it’s interesting.

Hi Debra! I deeply appreciate your experience with your father! I have my Capricorn in the 12th House and Full Moon in Cancer, plus Aquarius Rising just like him. But the difference is I have air – three planets (Mars, Neptune and Saturn) in Libra in the 8th house, they make squares with the Moon and the Sun. And my Cancer Moons can cry easily. Happy Full Moon! Happy Birthday, Milt! Happy Birthday to me tomorrow!

There are many layers for sure of unresolved anger suppressed from childhood and what we carry from our parents suppressed childhoods as well! I have done a lot of work around this and realized it is and will be a lifelong process to peel away at those layers. I am grateful I was able to forgive my parents (and be forgiven) before they passed (12 and 15years ago). But I continue this journey of self discovery every day. I lost my younger brother last March to cancer and it turned my life inside out. He was my best friend. He left me our childhood homestead and executor of his will. He had never married and moved in when our parents passed. It took about 7 months to go through not only his things but my parents and 3 older brothers! Anyway, my parents had saved many things from their childhood and even my grandparents! Needless to say, I learned a lot about them from letters journals and old photos, I definitely have a new perspective on life and death.

Happy birthday, Milt! Birthdays are my most favorite holidays.
I feel life imploding on me and all around… grateful for a moment of calm reflection and abilities to redo and learn again! Year of the snake is gonna completely change everything. Let’s go, us… we were born here and for these exact moments. Time to stand up, they are most definitely calling your name!

Today’s rough rooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…. Can I say thank you I did not implode today as a semi did a hit and run with an SuV, a giant light pole, STOP sign, and ME, right there on the corner of my very own street walking home from work in a blizzard in a state I still don’t belong in without a cell phone cuz it finally died and I can’t afford to get a new one.
Fires all around and all over the news now… but nobody came to film me all year as I’m going through a phoenix rebirth all alone and I am a terrified.

But then I’m not. Because last year, my word was Trust. And on the new Moon I decided my 2025 was starting off with the word SAFE… and it’s day 11 and I feel anything but.
Praying for my miracle. I know I can’t be invisible. I saw the STOP sign. I am asking for HELP. .
My SOS is singing and my flag is waving high.

God. Show me what you made me for and bring me forth into my service. I devote to Love.

Very impactful, thank you. I definitely will review and address my past sadness and pain, to release and free me up to embrace an enlightened me, now and the future.

  • Flavie says:

I just remember dad is gemini rising but being an Aries saying he’s made to work makes me say he has Capricorn, that explains he doesn’t tell about his feelings. When ♋️ is full moon I feel strong sadness of bro disliking me, that I’ve no kids yet. About mom being dead.

  • Debra Esterine says:

Thank you, Debra, for sharing your story. I too had herpes (Encephalitis) on the right side of my brain in 1993, a month after my 30th birthday, and during my first Saturn return. I too have Aquarius rising, but have many planets in air signs. Looking back, I realize that I almost lost my life to that brain virus, but it was a wake-up call for me to address and confront what was not working for my life any longer and could not be ignored. I appreciate your insight and it keeps me interested in continuing my interest in astrology.
