Sun in Gemini. Moon in Gemini.

I want you to know something: there are people on this planet who have reached a level of consciousness I can only speculate and write about. It is not fully my experience- but a girl has the right to dream.

Imagine carrying a permanent “get out of jail free” card in your pocket, one that works under every circumstance. No matter the crisis or the joy, these people somehow slip out of the chaos of the moment and land in a quiet place that has no preference for good or bad. They accept what is. They surrender to the here and now and if you look closely, you often see a little smile on their face.

Think about it: you are locked in a prison for life, against your will, with no visible escape. Yet secretly you carry a key. At any moment you can step beyond the scene of suffering and walk directly into peace.

They let life have her way.

Now imagine falling in love- that magnetic force pulling you toward someone who lights you up like a Christmas tree. We know what happens then; chemistry takes over. We become intoxicated, obsessed, carried away. Fresh love often pulls us far from free will.

Death does the same thing.

When someone we love leaves- a parent, a child, a partner, a pet- we ache. We cry. We are human. We are wired for attachment.

As an Astrologer, after years of hearing stories, I have come to believe that much of life moves through timing and cycles. People arrive and depart. Endings come. We resist, we grieve, and tears fall.

But what amazes me are the rare ones who somehow let grief become their doorway into freedom.

I have known a few.

My friend Kenny spent twenty-seven years in San Quentin prison and never argued with life. He kept a smile on his face and his heart open, waiting for angels to arrive- which they did.

And my friend Ash, after losing his father- his best friend, his twin soul- entered a peace that remained. Not because he avoided pain, but because he surrendered to it.

These people fascinate me. I study them. I sit beside them. They seem ordinary, but they carry something extraordinary.

They still cry. Even the masters cry. I always loved the shortest verse in the Bible:

“Jesus wept.”

As a psychotherapist, I believe we all have an inner child longing to be held and loved. But not everyone learns how to transform suffering into peace.

Trust me: peace is a real place.

Not just for Christ or Buddha, but for quiet, uncelebrated beings walking among us. The clues are simple: they laugh often, move easily between pain and peace, and somehow keep one foot on earth and one somewhere over the rainbow.

So under this double Gemini sky, I want to create a dream- a concrete goal.

To learn how to hurt and love and begin again gracefully.

To prefer reality exactly as it arrives: messy, beautiful, human.

For my birthday, I am giving myself a gift: the dream that one day peace becomes my home base- from morning until night.

Maybe it takes a few more lifetimes.

But dreams begin the same way: you see them, write them, speak them, and hold them close.

One moment at a time.

I have also had a love for astrology since I was 15 … Linda Goodman’s book at the time was my best friend and I still have it.

Yes! I’d love to share that path with you. As a Gemini, Libra ascendant, I’d welcome the companionship and the adventure, though my Capricorn moon might complicate things! Lovely, insightful letter. Many thanks!

  • Happy Birthday Debra! Thank you for lifting up the world with your wisdom, honesty, humor, and love!

I join you in your prayer for the world. Today, may we embrace, surrender, and breath into this moment exactly as it is. May we surf the wave of presence and anchor our awareness into our hearts so that love expands into all aspects of our messy human nature.

Thank you for shining your light so bright that sailors on the furthest points on the horizon can see a lighthouse and aim their sails toward the shore.

May your birthday bring you moments of love, laughter, magic, and adventure!

Sending you love and the deepest gratitude for igniting my life long love affair with astrology!!!

When you were describing going thru pain and then letting yourself be at peace, this sounds like me. Actually when i decided to go deep into astrology after my first husband left in 2015, was when I really felt I learned and mastered this. I’ve lost close family when i was younger and i grew to accept it but 2015 was when i truly understood that life isn’t static. In 2023 i lost my favorite person in my life, my father. I grieved for a good year but i finally accepted it. I have not had an easy life by far. Its been trial after trial. But i learned that everything happens for a reason. In 2015 I decided i wanted to be an astrologer. I just wasn’t ready. It’s always been my passion. This year I’m going to put myself out there. You have been someone ive watched and learned from since 2015. Thank you for being there for me, even if you didnt realize it 💜

OMG YES YES YES TO EVERYTHING YOU SAY. Debra, I keep trying to ween myself away from you…. And it doesn’t work. You are the physical, grounded angel human being that you speak of. It amazes me that you don’t see it yet. I see you. I love you.. I love the space of love that invites me in and it is there that I see the whole of everything. And then I blink and everything is the same but now different. That’s you!

This is such a beautiful little essay. I am with you, I have been thinking about alchemizing suffering into peace, contentment. Embracing whatever comes my way. It is a long journey.
Thank you so much. You touched my soul.

  • Amber says:

I’ve found that acceptance is the key to peace. After every reaction you can imagine to tragedy, it is the one thing that can reset pain into positivity. A family friend recently found out that he had a hidden infection in his foot and it needed to be amputated immediately. He moved past shock, denial, anger, sadness and anxiety straight into gratitude and humor about it. Happy for his survival and joking about the “bionic” prosthetic he will eventually get. Within one day. Absolutely incredible!

Happy Birthday Debra. Many blessings! I too am a Gemini. I lost a son 9 years ago and finally found peace in his passing. Yes I still grieve and cry. I miss him dearly. I feel his presence often. I even made a butterfly garden in remembrance of him. I look out my kitchen window and see it daily. Keep doing what you do.

Awe, residing in peace… yes! It could take lifetimes and I am signing up for that one. This lifetime has had its challenges. And it is becoming a time for me to ‘declutter’, and boy it was hard at first, but as time is passing, momentum is taking over. And I rather like the feel of ease – thinking it will move into peace.

  • Aven says:

Yes I want to learn this.

  • Thank you..I’m interested
