Sweethearts,

This morning I was thinking about the crazy dude on the street corner with his sign “THE END IS NIGH”. I feel like maybe, I was the crazy one, passing him by with my shopping bags, naive and unaware.

Like all of you, I woke up last Saturday (October 7, 2023) to the news.

I jumped on the phone to call my aunt, my cousins, my friends in Israel. They’re in bomb shelters, rockets blowing up out their door. Their friends, their neighbours, their families are gone.

“He’s dead, she’s dead. The baby’s dead.”

Unspeakable grief. Oceans of tears.

My silly self went to Instagram seeking soothing and connection. Bad idea. Amidst my family’s bereavement, I find my friends sharing memes politicizing our grief. Epigenetics is a motherfucker. My ancestors are trembling in my bones. My brain is racing, my heart is pounding, my nervous system is shot. Protect yourself.

Unfollow, unfollow, unfollow. Spiral all the way down.

Where is my breath? Am I breathing? Where is my body?

My sister calls me, she’s crying so much I can’t understand what she’s saying. I’m chain-smoking cannabis. Soothe by any means necessary.

Ezra comes, his cheeks red from playing outside, he’s hungry. I spread cream cheese on a slice of bread and call it “lunch.” I’m disassociating. My kids are alive, theirs are not.

And down the spiral goes. More death, more innocents murdered. Bombs, rubble, a blood bath, displacement – 1.5 million people made to flee for their life.

I call my friend whose family lives in Nablus, Palestine. More grief, more fear, more tears.

And then, in the middle of this immense chaos, my dearest Malika lost her 19-year-old son in an unrelated and tragic way. We held a circle of prayer for her, all sobbing for our sweet friend. Mothers crying for mothers crying.

Broken hearts all around.

We did what we know how to do: we organized, we helped.

In no time, a meal train and a go-fund-me were in place (link if you feel called, here). Some friends purchased plane tickets to go be with her. I took over her Astrology classes, held space for her students when they cried for her. If you want to see shit get done, get a bunch of moms together.

I’m thinking, the world would be a lot better if mothers were leading it instead of war mongering men.

Beloved, how do we make sense of the senseless?

What do we do in the face of horror?

How do we deal with our powerlessness? With our fear? With this immense sadness? With this gaping wound of a heart?

Some people say “FIGHT BACK.”

Every cell in my body shrinks with fear at what this implies. More blood can’t possibly be the answer. The oppressed oppressors. Killing innocent people will not bring back our dead.

Violence begets violence begets violence, and the loop of suffering just goes on and on and on.

Their suffering doesn’t alleviate mine! It doubles, triples, multiplies it exponentially.

They, We.

What the fuck.

“All wars are civil wars, because all men are brothers,” said the French writer Francois Fenelon.

Anything that says otherwise is a lie as far as I’m concerned

The illusion of separation is strong.

It will make us believe that you are not me. That we are not one.

Our brains cannot fathom how connected we are, and yet, we are one.

Think of how Covid showed us that we literally all breathe the same air. Your cough is my cough. Your blood is my blood. Your baby is my baby. I cannot be free if you are not free.

Today, as I’m writing this, is an eclipse. The Astrology of now is so on the nose, it’s creepy.

Eclipses are said to reveal what was previously hidden, and to speed up the timelines towards destiny and fate.

An eclipse is when the light is covered by darkness.

Pluto sits in the middle of this eclipse. Pluto is the underworld, death, trauma, the worst of history, power, corruption, loss of power, the unseen, the buried, literal shit.

This eclipse is bringing ALL OUR SHIT to the surface.

It is revealing the ugliest sides of humanity.

Our darkness is brought to the light.

One of the things I always tell my students when I teach them about Pluto (some of you reading this already know what I’m going to say…)

PLUTO TURNS SHIT TO FERTILIZER.

It shows us the shadow so we can know it, digest it and recycle it.

What is really interesting here is the added nuance with Aries and Libra.

This eclipse has the North Node, what we are evolving towards, in Aries, and the South Node, what we are moving away from, in Libra.

WHAT?! Moving towards Aries-the warrior and away from Libra-the peacemaker? How is that possible?!

Aries says ME, and Libra says WE.

Aries is about autonomy and Libra is about compromise.

I spent all week scratching my head on how to make sense that this shadow was Libra, not Aries. And then it hit me like a brick:

The shadow of Libra is the illusion that there is a “you” and a “me.”

In Libra, we are made aware of THE OTHER.

Peacemaking implies initial separation.

Peacemaking implies conflict.

Peacemaking implies one, and another.

In Aries, there is only “ME” in the world.

You are me, the tree is me, the sky is me.

Shit that means that the Hamas guy is me, too. Netanyahu is me. Shit. Donald Trump is me. The soldier is the civilian. The slaughterer is the cow.

The mother burying her child, she’s me.

As above, so below.

As within, so without.

ONE.

אֶחָד.

If the Astrology is saying anything today, it is: Look where separation got us. Our pain is trivialized, politicized, weaponized. We are dehumanized. Pawns used against one another. There is no one, there is no other.

The crazy guy downtown knew all along.

The end is in fact, very much nigh.

This week feels like it, for sure.

May it be the end of the illusion of separation.

May this end be a beginning.

May I, may we, may all of us, all of me, become aware of our oneness, even when it’s hard. Particularly when it’s hard.

May this shit be fertilizer for a better world for this ONLY ONE HUMANITY. May we all live with decency, equality, freedom, in celebration and love.

May the collective human heart be relieved of all pain and suffering.

Metta, metta, metta.

  • Thank you so much for this. I will pass it on. I am an Aries sun, Scorpio raising, Virgo moon. Plus a fire horse. My daughters, a Scorpio, the other a Libra and my partner, the Taurus. Hold on tight world and open up to the love. As an Aries I will hold the door open for others to go through, because I can, so I must. Together we stand divided we fall. Choose the love world. One person at a time.

How to steer men towards the “ME” in every Woman? How to teach empathy through the ages? Sibling rivalry, competition for resources, sharing. How to establish schools worldwide that strategize the Golden Rule? Compassion is UnderUtilized😩

Dear Sarah, thank you for your heartfelt, love felt words, May we all find our way out of this great “Nothing” in our own Never-ending Story, as the world goes through this New Turning, whatever it may be. The One thing I can say for sure is that looking through the mirror, above the veil, beyond our understandings, LIFE ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, has found a WAY TO BE, We, that now breathe, and walk and move and feel and emote and LOVE and LIVE, in this moment, are proof to this…… all be it, a very twisted, pretzeled, uncomfortable, painful way, that hurts, WE ARE ALIVE, which indicates that there is space for New Choices, Actions, Words, Behaviors, to STOP the “Nothing” in it’s tracks. I still lean into HOPE, that We will find That Way….. God Bless Us All, Everyone –

The fellow journeys statement: We humanity of earth resolve with GAIA upon Unity; we proclaim the liberation of our planet and our species; we initiate the full restoration of our human form and purpose; we thank all of those who have taught us on our Journeys; we apologize to all those whom we’ve harmed; we forgive all those who’ve exploited and abused us and we release them; we thank GAIA for sustaining us; we gratefully receive the blessings of All who support our growth in Love; we release our past selves of separation and become our new selves of Oneness.

Beautiful, thank you, on the dot !
What I’ve also learned from astrology that it’s the big circle inside which all of these energies manifest in different ways for all of us. It’s the circle within which they manifest is the Oneness, that is the higher dimension, the all inclusive level at which we are truly One and connected and the same. The mistakes we make is in getting involved in the machinations of the energies within the circle and take it to be the only truth. I’m not suggesting that we can just walk away from the archetypal motions, I don’t think we can buy just to remind ourselves of the greater Allness, the circle of Existence, within which all this plays out.
My heart is breaking too with all the pain released at this time. Yet only loving can heal the wounds. ♥️♥️♥️

I love you, thank you for writing and sharing our words, we are one bar none.

  • Betsy says:

Thank you, Sarah, for writing this. Spot on!! Thank you, Debra, for sharing this on your site so I found it.
Sarah, you hit on such amazing and powerful truth. And I am simultaneously overwhelmed by the pain and hopeful that we may find our way through the pain to our oneness, to our common connection. I am hoping that as more and more of us see and name this truth and risk speaking it to our world, there actually might be a shift in the universe. I am a Christian pastor who loves astrology and sees the universal connection of creation, Creator, Love as guide, ancestors. The universe is so big. The Creator is so big. And all connected. Recognizing that what happens to one of us happens to all of us is key! The African concept of Ubuntu!
I think we have to break out of our molds, out of our preconceived tribalism, out of our fear that forces us into dividing people and groups. We must see truth and compromise and kindness and wisdom and love wherever it is so we can name it, claim it and lift it up. For example, I am a registered Democrat who believes that the person most honoring of diversity and most capable of leading a diverse country is a female Republican who has different views from me, but who says, “I respect people who see this issue differently from me and I want my view to also be respected.” We ARE each other and we need to align with people who get it.

  • Maryanne says:

You said it. My heart has been feeling it.
May we all collectively raise the positive energy surrounded by and based in transparent love and Help to raise seeds of mutual respect- love / and prayer. 🙏
