The full moon flavor of the month has the Sun in Taurus and Moon in Scorpio, and we have an eclipse.

Buddha was born under this configuration. Since I was very young, I have been deeply drawn to Buddhism. I remember being a teenager in 11th grade, studying religion, when the teacher presented the principles of Buddhism, and it was as if I had just been turned on to a style of music I couldn’t get enough of.

The single most attractive theory/philosophy was the idea of non-attachment. So funny, because of all the configurations in Astrology, the one that Buddha was born under — Taurus Sun/Scorpio Moon (yes, Buddha was a full moon baby) — is the least likely to practice letting go and surrendering. They are so likely to want control and to hold on to their stuff — both physically and emotionally.

Isn’t it just like life to play with polarity? ‘Here, Buddha — you master the one energetic that is the hardest for you in order to reach enlightenment.’ Apparently he succeeded.

We are handed the exact lessons that are the hardest for us.

It’s the athletic mother who has a physically handicapped child. The brilliant doctor whose child dies of an unforgiving disease. The gay individual who is raised in a religious home, which forces the child to reject his family in order to find his true nature.

Every policeman has a crook in him, every psychologist needs healing; every singer looks for their voice.

‘We play with polarity wherever we go,’ said the Astrologer, who speaks daily to the relationship of the Sun and the Moon, like now, writing about the full moon opposition.

Taurus says ‘be gentle;’ Scorpio says, ‘just do whatever you need to get the job done.’ Our world is right now smack dab in the middle of such a polarity.

We know by now that we are treating Mother Earth (hello, Taurus) without concern for her future. The Scorpio in all of us has real, live sabotagers: we eat sugar, drink too much alcohol, or use plastics all day long when we know that this will be the ruin of us.

We drive our cars and fly around the world carelessly as we consume oil and take from Mom with no concern to give back. There have been virtually no governmental efforts to help this transition toward a conscious, kinder lifestyle. At least not yet.

My curiosity was piqued last year when I watched the documentary Choosing Earth. I began a serious study, and I began to record a podcast. (We will share the interviews May 24th; it’s called the ‘I Don’t Believe In Astrology Podcast.’)

I interviewed a mixture of people who are truly making a difference — not just on the environment, but on topics that matter — from sexuality to Tommy Chong’s spirituality (we called his podcast a pot-cast). Oh, and yes, I interviewed scientists, showing us that we are on a precipice and need to ask: what is this reality? I want to share many angles.

This last eclipse screamed: SLOW DOWN! Then Mother’s Day arrived, smack dab in the middle of Taurus season, and here is Buddha’s birthday, taking us into another eclipse, but this one is not asking us to slow down, it includes Scorpio’s voice saying: ‘Face reality. Buddha taught us that all suffering comes from attachment; this is an absolute truth; however, what can we do about it?’

What Taurus/Scorpio do you know who is not captured by the feeling of: ‘I know I should do things differently, but I act like we all do?’ This “business-as-usual” feeling will remain true until the waters start rising — until the fires hurt someone you know — until the toxicity levels in major cities get hard to breathe in.

The wisdom of this sky is to face truth as only a Scorpio can do (hello, eclipse) — and then decide if you are ready to break out of your familiar pattern and change it up.

What does that mean for the environment? Less cars, less flights, less plastic, less complaining? We are headed for a brick wall, that’s not surprising — yet, we cannot tolerate the meaning of what is. So we may just drive straight into this brick wall, with our eyes open, trusting Buddha.

All suffering comes from attachment. Did we learn nothing at all from COVID? We don’t want to lose our freedoms but we are going to.

Let’s do a prayer on this eclipse:

Allow me the wisdom to be emotionally honest with what is in my life, so that I can play the role of the healer. I am here to bless and hold for the others.

Lean in — we need you.

Blessings,
Debra

This message was a true gift for us today: harsh and painful but true. Tom and I watched it, then sat in reverent silence, wiping our tears. The steps that come after the waves of suffering are, of course, what we know we are being called to take, and they are clearly going to require all of our courage and wisdom and commitment. We, like you, have known this was coming. Long ago, we constructed our lives to reflect what we believed were solutions and not just more problems, but it seems that now is the time for our true testing. We’ve been in the process these past couple of years of digging deep and attempting to reclaim all the skills and tools and experiences that might serve the world in its time of great crisis. It all feels pretty apocalyptic and even mythic–the battle to save the world from evil–but sometimes it plays out on a small, simple stage: watching a short video on a Saturday morning in springtime. A small treasure encountered, a note in a bottle, a message from another World Warrior, encouraging us to rejoin the struggle and take our places among the Elders. We are deeply grateful for today’s reminder!

It is scarey, and worrisome, but we must take many deep breathes and follow our own instinct, keep calm and go with positive flow.
What bothers me the most, some issues can be fixed with logical thinking and ways, with little complications. Drives me crazy when every happening has to be turned into confusion and explosions.WHY? My favourite saying( What is Wrong with People)?Just makes me very angry. The world can be beautiful, let’s work toward that, instead of negativity.( Just my opinion) Witch often I have strings one.?

  • Debbie Tate says:

Beautiful message Debra, thank you. I am Taurus sun, it breaks my heart to see all the rubbish dumped over mama earth every day, I spend all my time on my daily walk to and from the beach picking up rubbish, so so sad. When I was a kid all I picked up was shells, now it bags and bags of plastic and takeaway rubbish.
I have many people comment on what a good job I’m doing picking it up but I don’t see them helping, I find this kind of weird.. so so worried for mama earth ?

  • Cindy Copas says:

That lightened the burden of all the tension surrounding my daily experiences. I have tears of relief and hope for what lies ahead. Thank you Debra! Love you you from my heart and soul. Cindy

Thank you for the truthful message. Thank you for not pretending that its hard. I am from Russia, but I don’t live there for many years. My friend recently called me crying that she doesn’t have means to buy a food anymore for her and her family. It’s getting bad there. I offered her a warm words, calm her down with prayer. I know that I can’t even sent her money to help, everything is blocked. I feel like there is only in my power to hold the positive thoughts, ankor in trust of the divine plan for humanity. We are going to get through this together by rasing vibrations through our prayer, meditations, devotion. Mother Earth is strong and we are her wild children and we will bring all of us to the harmony and peace and Prosperity.
Thank you Deb for your positive powerful message!

  • Carol says:

Right on as always Deb. My question is, when will we all: do something real, love and accept all, help the needy no mater their circumstances, stop the greed and instead think of the need, take care of all children, make sure everyone has the opportunity for a free education… get rid of the violence, find balance in all things, tell truths not false statements. Get help for the mentally ill, make sure the old are well taken care of as they age. And on and on.. no order just as it came to me… Please keep doing what you do Deb!

  • Claire says:

Thank you Debra, what an amazing message; however, will we remember it, when next we go back to status quo and just do the same old thing, over and over again? Where is our compassion? If we do let go, what are we going to let go off and replace it with what action that will provide peace and release the pressure? I still have so many unanswered questions and just strive to remember and learn everyday. But I also know that in following you I am at least taking a step in the right direction, thank you for being you and for being there for me and everyone else.
    Claire

The choice is clear for those who can see it. Thank you for being a shining light on a subject needing to be addressed on a larger scale. Peace will only come when we all see peace for all. <3

  • Janette says:

Very poignant and impactful. The world has changed for the worse under all of its pressures. We are all faced with new realities now. I pray that God intervenes in such a way as to wake us up to solutions so that our young may know some peace in this world as they grow. I enjoy your support and appreciate you for speaking out about the changes we need to be making on this planet. This video left me teary eyed and wanting to do more.
