A New Moon in Taurus inspired both this newsletter and a report on a documentary I just watched called The Alpinist. The film follows a young Canadian man named Marc-André Leclerc, who spent years climbing the highest peaks in North America- mostly alone and without ropes. One job. One goal. To keep returning to the mountains over and over again, devoted entirely to the climb.

Truly a worthwhile watch. My heart was widened, my love for Mother Nature fed, and I got to see how a soul can be on a single-eyed mission- I can relate. Lucky for me, I fell upon this great content which fit perfectly for a double Taurus newsletter.

Wow, did that man spend a lot of time in the quiet (he had Mercury in Scorpio). He walked alone for days and days with minimal equipment, and even less food. He preferred to be unrecognized for his genius skill set: enduring long silence and impossible circumstances without a plan. He spontaneously walked (Moon in Aries, Sag Rising) through the freezing cold, highest mountains of Alaska, and traversed the Canadian mountain ranges, Patagonia, and other places. He just climbed. Days and days alone in the most difficult terrain in the world.

His love for Mother Earth arrived as a child when it became obvious that he had zero interest in sitting behind a desk. For him, following instructions as a child- which was expected- was impossible. Instead, his mother handed him book after book all about adventures and climbing. He learned on his own, allowing his individuality to reign. Obvious to me- said the Astrologer- he was born with Saturn in Aquarius and was one of a kind with no effort to change.

How appropriate for our double Taurus sky: Marc-André stayed true to his values with little regard for societal expectations. Yes, he had ADHD, one of the indicators of a mind that cannot follow in an expected way.

Think Taurus wearing patched-up old clothes, saving food as leftovers to be reused again and again in creative ways, holding onto old relics to absorb meaning from a time long gone because of sentimentality- without concern for what anyone else thinks. These are qualities of a Fixed personality.

Double Taurus is the part of all of us who holds our own truth as an old-fashioned value that has no need to be updated; marriage, loyalty, devotion. To tell a Taurus, “Those old values are not viable, try this newfangled approach to ease your effort”- that is just silly. There you are talking to yourself. Taurus does not budge. Old ways die hard.

I embody this quality. I used to wonder if my style as an Astrologer was old-fashioned. I repeated my style for so many years, always returning to the Sacred Script- the method I created way back in the 80’s.

It should come as no surprise I had little interest in the modern-day indicator Chiron, for example (an asteroid discovered in 1977), because I too follow my own tradition and hold my truths as solid and true.

This is why Taurus is shy and underpaid. Just do what you love without attachment to modern days. There is no desire to be seen as special or extraordinary.

Taurus is the part in all of us that doesn’t fix what isn’t broken. This documentary was being made while Marc didn’t demonstrate any real care about it. He would sneak away and not show up for weeks during the filming. He didn’t need the accolades, nor the attention. He was just doing what he loved.

Barbara Streisand, a Taurus, was known to throw up before her performances and eventually stopped performing to avoid the attention she was allergic to. I find this personality type fascinating.

Taurus is the Buddha, who said: all attachment lends itself to suffering. Less attachment allows a softer life, without needs or the desire to be “special.” I love old-fashioned values, said double Taurus.

Which side of the spectrum do you live on? Do you resist attention? Are you shy? Do you repeat behaviors even when there is a modern means to get that done?

Or are you someone who loves to be in the spotlight and grab the mic without fear? Neither is right or wrong, just different.

This film touched my soul. To see someone who had no need to do ANYTHING but stay true to his first love and follow it, without attachment to payment or fame, made my heart sing. His behavior is echoed inside my very personality type.

This is why I love Astrology as I do. To give everyone the option to follow their love at whatever level. The function of Astrology: to support each and every one of us in being our unique, peculiar selves.
